This is one of the few songs from Bollywood (or anywhere actually) that expresses very difficult emotions of vengeance and pain stemming from unrequited love. It has been remixed and re-rendered and covered by several artists over the years, though in my opinion, nobody even came close to the original. This song remains extremely popular for its sharp and biting words, a peculiar rhythm and a unique rendering by actor-singer Kishore Kumar, who was also the lead actor of the film.
